Ordinary Examination (Schedule B) - Doctoral Course

GPSS requires TOEFL or IELTS score report to be submitted. Please take TOEFL or IELTS test well in advance.

Important: Please note that applicants residing overseas and who do not hold Japanese residency status at the time of application, cannot enroll in April due to time constraints associated with immigration procedures. Enrollment would be in October.

JAPANESE GOVERNMENT (MEXT) SCHOLARSHIP (University Recommendation)

The Japanese Government (MEXT) University Recommendation Scholarship is available for GPSS applicants. Eligible applicants interested in the MEXT scholarship should apply for the ordinary examination (Schedule B) to be considered. Nominees for the MEXT scholarship will be selected from those who pass the ordinary examination (Schedule B) and meet the scholarship requirements. Applicants are not obligated to submit additional documents during the application process.
*The application screening fee, JPY30,000 will be reimbursed to those who have enrolled in the GPSS program as MEXT scholars.

Applications will be accepted through online application system.

Submission of Recommendation letters

Please ask your recommenders to directly submit the letter. Please refer to item 3. Application Documents of "Information on Entrance Examination"

Score Report of English Proficiency Test

TOEFL or IELTS score report must be submitted. Please take TOEFL or IETLS test beforehand. For more detail, please refer to item 7. English Score Report of "Guideline for Applicants" and item 3. Application Documents of "Information on Entrance Examination".

Type of Examination

The ordinary examination of GPSS consists of document review and oral examination. For detailed information, please refer to item 1. Entrance Examinations of "Information on Entrance Examination".

The ordinary examination for the GPSS-GLI is conducted in English.

Notification of document screening results

Notification emails will only be sent to successful applicants by Friday, January 10 2025.Please kindly note that the GPSS secretariat will not send a notification email to unsuccessful applicants.

Oral Examination

For those who have passed the document review, the oral examination will be held in the end of January, 2025, in principle by using internet video conference system. (see item 1. Entrance Examinations of "Information on Entrance Examination".

Please prepare the following conditions:

  • Applicants must prepare equipment such as a web camera and the proper network environment for using Zoom for an oral exam, and must also demonstrate the proper functioning of the network and equipment for the oral examination to GPSS in a simulated test before the day of the actual oral exam.
  • In order to verify the identity of the applicant participating in the oral exam video capability is required. A network connection with a sound-only capability is unacceptable and nullifies any such oral exam.
