Dr. Giles Sioen Joins GPSS Faculty and Shares Insights at SSDC Seminar
Dr. Giles Sioen, an alumnus of the Graduate Program in Sustainability Science (2017), delivered a lecture at the Sustainable Society Design Center (SSDC) seminar, reflecting on his research career and the importance of inter- and transdisciplinary approaches in sustainability studies. Drawing on his experiences, Dr. Sioen emphasized the value of collaborating across diverse fields and sectors to address complex challenges. He encouraged students to:
1. Join an academic community,
2. Align their research with science-policy,
3. Engage in fieldwork,
4. Utilize a systems approach, and
5. Make knowledge available for higher level actions.
From October this year, Dr. Sioen joined the GPSS faculty, bringing his expertise to the program where his academic career began. He further introduced the research he will conduct as part of the Sustainable Bio-Loop Endowed Course. Students and the SSDC faculties welcomed his return and look forward to his contributions to the program.
