GPSS PhD Candidate Publishes Study on Citizen Participation in Smart Cities
Kevin Florentin, a PhD candidate from GPSS, has published a study in Telematics and Informatics R titled "Facilitating Citizen Participation in Greenfield Smart City Development: The Case of a Human-Centered Approach in Kashiwanoha International Campus Town."
The study provides real-world evidence of the benefits of actively investing in citizen participation and placemaking when building socially sustainable smart cities from scratch. It also describes the facilitators and barriers to citizen engagement in the case. The examination of the case is based on qualitative analysis of data from field observations, interviews, and document reviews. The findings provide guidance for smart communities, planners, and policymakers on how to steer technology-centered smart city development in human-centered, socially sustainable directions.
