GPSS Doctoral Student Publishes Study on Climate Change Education Policy in npj Climate Action
Kelvin Tang, a GPSS doctoral student, has published a study in npj Climate Action titled "Climate change education in Indonesia's formal education: a policy analysis."
This study explores the integration of climate change education within Indonesia's policy framework, shedding light on critical areas for improvement and development. Despite the critical need for coordinated policies to optimise the design and implementation of climate change education, the analysis reveals a significant discrepancy between Indonesia's climate change policy and education policy regarding this crucial aspect.
Thematic analysis was conducted using twenty climate change policy texts, twelve K-12 education policy texts, and seventeen expert interview transcripts.
The findings offer insights for policymakers, educators, and relevant authorities regarding the position of climate change education within the policy domain, emphasising the need for policy integration for a more effective climate change education initiative. Moreover, this study contributes to the global discussion on climate change education, bringing evidence from the underrepresented context of Indonesia.
"This research highlights the pressing need for more cohesive policies to ensure effective climate change education", said Kelvin Tang. "I hope this study will inform future policy decisions and educational practices not only in Indonesia but also in other countries facing similar challenges".
